This new whisky release sounds like a true gem.Kilkerran is derived from the ‘Gaelic Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kieran had his religious cell and Campbeltown now stands.

Kilkerran is the name of whisky produced at the Glengyle distillery situated in the town of Cambletown on the stunning Kintyre Peninsula, West Scotland. Killerran is a derivative of the name Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain in Gaelic which was the early settlement where Campbeltown is now situated. It was the same site where Saint Kieran had his religious cell. The Glengyle name is already used for vatted malt elsewhere so the decision was taken to call the whisky brand Kilkerran.

The distillery is owned by Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd and is one of only three distilleries that make up the Cambeltown whisky region. Glengyle was closed in 1925 and in 2000 the distillery was acquired by the owners of the neighbouring Springbank distillery. It was rebuilt and the first distillation took place in 2004.
