The 2021 Florilege des Monts Damnes from Anthony and David Girard is a really beautiful bottle of Sancerre. This is the brothers’ old vine cuvee, made from vines that are between seventy and eight years of age, situated in the heart of Monts Damnes. This wine is barrel fermented and aged in three, four and five year old barrels. The wine offers up a deep and classic bouquet of gooseberry, lime, complex chalky minerality, Chavignols’ lovely botanicals, orange peel and a hint of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is crisp, full bodied, focused and complex, with a superb core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and cut, lovely balance and a long and very classy finish. This is outstanding juice!
