With a wine history dating back to the 12th century, Chateau Carbonnieux is one of the most historic estates in the entire Bordeaux region. Perhaps more well-known for their whites (although they produce very good reds as well), Carbonnieux has old vines of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon ranging from 30-60 years. The 2011 is about 2/3 Sauvignon and 1/3 Semillon, and 100% barrel fermented although it does not taste oaky. Dry, crisp and classy, we found grapefruit and green melons on the front of the nose and palate followed by hints of honey and toast as the wine finishes with fresh, elegant flavors. Known for its aging potential, Carbonnieux is a must-have for serious collectors.

The 2019 Carbonnieux Blanc is distinctive and classy. Crushed rocks, lemon peel, flowers and white pepper all give 2019 a good deal of aromatic lift. A touch of reduction adds character while allowing the wine’s natural depth and structure to come through nicely. Hints of slate, pear and mint linger nicely.
