Given that just a few of the core Kentucky producers do true cask strength barrel picks (and when they do the prices and scarcity are enough to drive people crazy), getting a steady output of 5 – 7 year old cask selections from MGP at $59.99 retail isnt anything were getting tired of here at Mission. Our latest Heavens Door pick is bottled at 121.5 proof with the low rye mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. MGP also has a higher rye mash of 36%, but those tend to be more herbaceous. The higher percentage of corn gives this Bourbon a rounder, sweeter profile up front with medium spiciness through the middle. Candy corn, molasses, and barrel char bring up the finish with a blast of heat from the huge ABV.
