Hine is a well-known manufacturer of Cognac that has been producing the brandy for over 250 years. The Hine House is located bon the banks of the Charente River in Jarnac, France.
The brand was founded in 1763 by Thomas Hine, who was an Englishman from Dorset. Following his arrest in the French Revolution, he married into a Cognac family in Jarnac, some 6 miles (10km) from the town of Cognac itself. He developed the company into its modern form, eventually renaming it Thomas Hine & Co. in 1817. In 1962, Hine was granted a royal warrant from Queen Elizabeth II, the only Cognac house to gain this recommendation.
