Earlier this year, Old Elk came to us with the very last of their wheated MGP-distilled Bourbon inventory they plan on releasing for the next year-plus. While we’re waiting for the rest of their Bourbon to catch up in age, enjoy this delicious 7 year old cask strength delightthe oldest we’ve sourced from Old Elk so far. The nose is like creme brule and peanuts with plenty of sweet oak. The initial sip bringsa big punch and youll quickly discover this is not a barrel that necessarily shines as an uncut, cask strength specimen. Add a few drops of water, however, and youre bowled over with maple syrup, brandied cherries, and a supremely oaky sweetness that lasts for a full minute on the finish. If you’re a rocks drinker, this whiskey will be your go-to. By the time the ice melts, it’s in the perfect place for maximum flavor.
