Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Five-Malt Stouted Mash Whiskey
Woodford Reserve is a Bourbon brand and one of Kentucky’s oldest and smallest distilleries.
It is owned by Brown-Forman (which also owns Jack Daniel’s) and is located in the heart of a horse-breeding country in Woodford County. The distillery was formerly known as the Old Oscar Pepper Distillery and was the workplace of James Crow who is known as the father of modern Bourbon production.
Nowadays, Woodford Reserve is unique in using pot stills to triple distill the spirit, which is thought to give the spirit more depth of flavor compared with a column-still product of the same strength. The Woodford distillery was established in 1838 and today, also boasts a rare heat-cycled barrelhouse, which helps the spirit gain color and flavor from the wood.
Barreled at 90.4 degrees proof (45 percent abv) in air-dried wood, the Straight Bourbon is the flagship offering from Woodford Reserve. The regular portfolio includes a straight rye whisky and the Double Oaked, a blend using lightly charred, heavily toasted barrels. Limited releases from Woodford include the Master’s Collection and several single malts made from 100-percent malted barley.
