Worlds End Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Good Times Bad Times 2015
Jonathan Maltus, owner of Chateau Teyssier in St-Emilion (one Bordeaux’s first “garagistes” decades ago) is making his foray into California wine with the newly-released World’s End label. The series’ Cabs are made from grapes sourced from grape-growing legend Andy Beckstoffer, in this case from the famed To Kalon vineyard. Already sold out at the winery, this small production likely won’t last long here either. Made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a powerful but balanced expression of the grape. Bing cherry and plum fruit dominate the nose, which also has lovely anise accents. The fruit continues onto the palate, with firm tannins that need a little air or time in the cellar to resolve, plus acidity to help evolve in the cellar. A powerful wine now, we’re not sure what bad times the name would be referring to if you had a bottle of this in hand.
